The southern supercontinent Gondwana was already ancient when the Breede River Valley first formed. The Robertson wine area lies in this Jurassic geological fault, bordered by the soaring Langeberg and Riviersonderend mountains. Millennia of erosion and the meandering of the wide Breede River produced the lime-rich soils and gravels which give Robertson’s Chardonnay wines a complex character that reflects this unique part of the world. Here, one can say, age and youth have combined in a wine for all times.
