Most of SA’s wine production occurs within the Cape Floral Kingdom, the smallest yet richest plant kingdom on earth, part of which has been listed as a World Heritage Site. This phenomenal diversity , with over 25 000 plants having been found in one metre square piece of soil, has profound implications for winemakers.

Here in the Cape we are fortunate not only in a warm Mediterranean climate, but also in a remarkably diverse range of ancient soils, some predating the breakup of the Gondwanaland super-continent. As a happy result, this area has a unique degree of biodiversity, the varied landscape and microclimates producing significant differences in terroir in a small space.
